THE STAR Johannesburg – 1935, July 29
Prof. P.K. de Villiers was part of the combined committee of the 3 Dutch Churches who agreed that church music should be less choral. Prof. De Villiers wanted rhythmic, well balanced and well contrasted church music. Less popular Afrikaans hymns were reset to more rhythmic music and several of his tunes were included in the new hymn book. Ironically, at the same time English churches wanted more choral music.
